Goodwood Revival: A Step Back in Time
The annual Goodwood Revival festival, taking place this September from the 8th - 10th September 2023, is an immersive event not to be missed. The only event of its kind to be set completely in period time, allows you to step back into the past and experience the world as it was in the 1900’s. Alongside the timely décor and vintage cars, the fashion is one of the biggest hits of the events – and we want to make sure you’re prepared with the best outfits to wear.
Women
One of the best accessories for women to wear is headgear. Adding volumes to your outfit, a great sun hat or fabric head scarf immediately transcends you to the 1940’s. As well as wrapping a long silk scarf over your shoulder adds a level of elegance and class to your outfit. Wear one atop a long dress or skirt with a fitted top and you’re set.
If you’re looking to embody more of a costume style theme, many women opt to recreate the uniforms of the Women’s Axillary Airforce or Women’s Royal Navy Service. You can head straight for a fancy dress shop and find exactly what you need.
You can also take the opposite approach of diving into the world of rockers and bikers. A major trend in the 50’s and 60’s, grab some leather clothing and RAF boots to complete the iconic look.

Men
In our opinion, you can’t go wrong with a dashing suit and waistcoat, paired with a great hat to match the fashion of the 1900’s. To spice up your outfit, pair it with a pair of luxury socks, to add a pop of colour and style. Argyle socks were trending in the 1920’s, and have since made a comeback. They’re the perfect accessory for the Goodwood Revival.
Some men choose to pay homage to the country; wearing a British army, Navy sailor or Royal Airforce uniform. Make sure you commit to the look entirely, either grabbing the individual pieces you need or visiting a fancy dress shop. Either way, you want to make sure you’re wearing the uniforms correctly and respectfully. Most come with specific regulations, so do your research beforehand.
As this is a racing car event, you can choose to look the part of a true race car driver. The Goodwood festival store have made it easy by selling Goodwood Overalls. Those combined with sewn-on vintage logos and the perfect hat and shoes are perfect for the occasion.
